Truth v. Kent School District, 542 F.3d 634 (9th Cir. 2008), cert. denied, 129 S.Ct. 2866, 2889 (2009). Michael successfully defended the Kent School District against allegations of violation of First Amendment rights arising out of the establishment of a Bible club in a District high school.
Kennedy v. Bremerton School District, 869 F.3d 634 (9th Cir. 2017), cert. denied, 139 S.Ct. 634 (2019). Michael successfully defended the Bremerton School District against a football coach’s claims that his rights of free speech and free exercise of religion were infringed when the District ordered him to cease including an organized demonstration of prayer in the closing ceremonies of football games.
Coy v. City of Duvall, 174 Wash.App. 272 (2013), review denied, 178 Wash.2d 1007, 308 P.3d 642 (2013). Michael successfully defended the City of Duvall against a claim for damages brought by a subdivision developer and obtained a judgment against the developer for the City’s legal fees of over $150,000.
Cooper v. Bellingham Sch. Dist., 125 Wash.App. 511 (2004). Michael successfully defended the Bellingham School District against personal injury claims brought on behalf of a first-grade student injured by a piñata bat at a school function.
